THE ENSEMBLE
Entering its fourteenth season, Avery Ensemble is an artist-managed piano quartet joined frequently by guest vocalists and instrumentalists. Its performances have been hailed by the Classical Voice of New England as “committed… excellent… amazing and persuasive” and as “marvelous… [infused with] passionate abandon and sensible restraint” by Audiophile Audition. Milton Moore of New London’s The Day called their February 2009 program “one of the more entertaining concerts of this, or any, season!” In 2009 the ensemble was admitted to the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism Roster of Touring Artists. In addition to its concertizing activities, the group has been running its own concert series since the Fall of 2007. Their recordings include piano trios by Mendelssohn and Copland (2000) and piano quartets by Brahms, Mahler and Schnittke (2007) both on the Zephyr label.
